Egypt's president Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met on Monday with Israel's prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the first time in public in NY in an attempt to revive the Middle East peace process.

The statement said: "The meeting witnessed the discussion of ways to revive the peace process and the establishment of a Palestinian state, with the necessary guarantees to contribute to the success of the process of settlement between the two sides". According to sources in the meeting who spoke to Ha'arez, the Egyptian president expressed optimism about the Trump administration's efforts to renew the "peace process", and reassured US Jews that Egypt was interested in helping. In a briefing to reporters, Netanyahu declined to address the meeting despite the fact that it was officially publicized.

In a briefing to reporters after the meeting with Trump, Netanyahu addressed the peace talks with the Palestinians and said that he has not changed the stance that he publicly expressed during his speech at Bar Ilan University in which he announced that he supports the two-state solution.

Netanyahu had met earlier with US President Donald Trump.
