  • Kevin Durant apologizes for 'out of context' comments about basketball in India

A day after TOI's news break on the justification of Kevin Durant's agent Rich Kleiman about the National Basketball Association superstar's comment on India, the Golden State Warriors' on Saturday forwarded an apology for his comments published on The Athletic.

Durant said he plans to return to India to run more basketball camps and meant no disrespect.

In a Q&A with Durant that appeared in The Athletic earlier this week, he was quoted as saying that the country is "20 years behind in terms of knowledge and experience".

In a statement on Twitter, Durant said: "Sorry that my comments about India were taken out of context, I'm grateful for the time I've got to spend there and I'm really pissed about how my comments came off, that's my fault, should've worded that better". He also reflected with endearment on his memories of seeing cows in the streets, monkeys running around and hundreds of people on the sides of the roads.

Durant's interview to The Athletic in the U.S. created a controversy on Friday for having described the conditions near Taj Mahal as an eye-opener and not what he had imagined.

"As I was driving up to the Taj Mahal, like I said, I thought that this would be holy ground, super protected, very very clean", he said. "I spoke about the difference between my imagination and reality there in Delhi and about where the game is compared to the rest of the world".
