'There was nothing to tell' Donald Trump Jr says of Russian meeting

13 Juillet, 2017, 08:27 | Author: Come Portier

Legal scholars were left scratching their heads about why Trump Jr. would reveal he met last June with Natalia Veselnitskaya, described as a "Russian government lawyer", after learning of her promise to provide information that could "incriminate" Clinton. But he grew into an executive role at the Trump Organization, was a co-star on "The Apprentice" and during his father's campaign was an active campaign presence, criss-crossing the country to speak in small towns and delivering a well-received speech at the national convention in Cleveland.

While the email chain, between Trump Jr. and an intermediary for a Putin-connected Russian real estate tycoon, may not be the definitive "smoking gun" proving collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, it certainly confirms a collusion attempt was made.

US President Donald Trump has lauded the "transparency" of his eldest son over the release of a chain of emails showing a Russian source offering "sensitive information" about his White House rival Hillary Clinton in the run-up to the presidential election.

"This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russian Federation and its government's support for Mr. Trump", wrote Goldstone.

"You don't have anything there saying: 'I, Donald Trump Jr., attempted to collude with the Russians.' What you have is indications of his knowledge the Russians were trying to interfere with the election and even, arguably, some indication he was open to the idea". As it would turn out, the most damaging Russian-hacked Clinton emails were released by WikiLeaks later in the summer. "I didn't know about this, I learned about it from television". It informs Trump Jr. that "the Russian government is interested in interfering with the election, and it seems to express his interest in at least entertaining involvement of the Russian government". The 2012 USA law levied sanctions against Russian human rights abusers. The sanctions have negatively impacted many of Putin's business associates.

As he released the emails, Donald Trump Jr. said that when he met with the attorney it became obvious to him that she did not have incriminating evidence about Clinton to hand to him and that Veselnitskaya quickly turned the conversation to discussions about sanctions the US had placed on Russia and Moscow's response ending adoption of Russian children by Americans.

- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 12, 2017Trump Jr. late Tuesday said he would be willing to testify about his meeting.

The Times has said Trump Jr. released his emails after being informed by the newspaper that it had seen them.

Trump Jr. defenders are excusing his possible violation of federal law as being the result naivete.

"I don't know Rob Goldstone either", Agalarov said. What does this have to do with Hillary Clinton? "So I think I wanted to hear it out". Because the email specifically mention's Trump's secretary's name, Mueller can subpoena her records.

"He's potentially opening himself for liability", Cohen said, noting that the emails also loop in then-Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort as well as Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, who attended the gathering at Trump Tower. In one response, Trump Jr. says he would "love" to hear more. "The fact he took the meeting is problematic". He only released his email chain when he found out the NYT was going to report on its contents. Kushner had repeatedly failed to disclose multiple meetings with Russian officials. Failure to fully disclose in the application is a felony. The president's son posted the emails only after they were obtained by The New York Times.

Last fall, Trump Jr. tweeted images of Pepe the Frog, a cartoon character whose image has been used by white supremacists, as well as imagery which likened Syrian refugees to poisonous Skittles candy. Steve Bannon springs to mind.
