  • Student sues betting company after it 'fails to pay out £1,009,960 winnings'

One of Britain's biggest bookmakers is being taken to court by a student after the company refused to pay out $1.694 million on a winning bet on the horses.

The following day, McCann said that she was contacted by Bet365 and correctly answered a series of questions before being told her money would be processed within 48 hours.

If the allegations are proved true, this would deem McCann's bet invalid and bet365 would not be liable to pay the winnings - though the court could demand the return of the original stake. In-play betting was the company's leading offering, representing 72% of bet365's sports betting revenue.

The bookmaker's terms include a clause that states third party betting is not permitted in any form - and they strongly suspect a third party was involved in raising the initial stake for McCann's bet.

But the student's lawyers say she didn't agree to the rule, within the site's terms and conditions, which are "too lengthy, too complex and much too vague for the average customer to understand".

A 19-year-old Belfast student has filed suit against bet365's parent company Hillside UK Sports LP.

Winning more than a million pounds, the student had staked £25,000 on 12 horses in four races.

Noida: Housing society attacked by mob after maid is 'beaten up'
The agitators alleged that one of the residents of the society held the domestic help captive and assaulted her physically. The SP said, "Most of the protesters are domestic helpers, who are angry that a maid has been allegedly beaten up".

However, in response, Bet365 lawyers said: "You claim that this dispute is simply about your client placing a bet; and being entitled to winnings".

Lawyers added: "Our client's case is very straightforward".

Miss McCann - who was 19 when she placed the bet in June past year - claims that she is owed at least $1,711,489 by Bet365, which was co-founded and run by English businesswoman Denise Coates.

Bet365 is run by co-founder Denise Coates.

Yet the company has hit back, apparently claiming that Megan is guilty of fraud by false representation, a cheater or an attempted cheater.

A spokesman for the company told the Sunday Telegraph: "A full investigation has been carried out into the circumstances of the bet that was placed".

"Bet365 is entirely satisfied the circumstances are such that winnings are not payable in relation to it". The operator believes that its position will be upheld in court. "We are not prepared to comment further whilst litigation is ongoing".
