  • Knicks will not buy out Carmelo Anthony's contract, president Steve Mills says

Though the New York Knicks have reportedly pressed the pause button on Carmelo Anthony trade talks, new details emerged over the weekend about potential involvement from the Portland Trail Blazers.

"No", he said Monday during a news conference as he was joined by new general manager Scott Perry and head coach Jeff Hornacek. Even so, the two sides will not be executing a buyout as Mills promptly removed that notion from the slate of possibilities.

The Knicks may or may not have Carmelo Anthony on their roster next season, but a buyout isn't an option. Mills said that if a trade made sense he would move Anthony, but he could "easily be part of the team".

The Knicks have been working on a four-team trade that would send Anthony to the Rockets.

Former team president Phil Jackson and his associates repeatedly called out Anthony in public, harping on his perceived "me-first" attitude and implying that he was ill-suited to the triangle offense because he held on to the ball too long.

"If Carmelo is with us, we will continue to develop our young players", Mills added.
