Jordan Spieth shoots 65 to lead British Open by three shots

Yet only moments later, the week-long leader made a birdie of his own to grab the advantage right back.

"The two bogeys on seven and eight stopped me in my tracks a little bit, but I bounced back well with a birdie at nine". But on the evidence so far, Spieth could probably break par in a snowstorm.

Kuchar started the day two behind compatriot Spieth, but closed to within one at the 2nd, before dropping back to two adrift with a bogey at the 4th. That alone should concern his fellow competitors, seeing as Spieth - victor of the Masters and U.S. Open in 2015 - doesn't typically move backward (with apologies to No. 12 at Augusta).

"With the weather we're expecting tomorrow, I still feel I'm in the golf tournament".

World number two Hideki Matsuyama of Japan went round in 66 to quietly climb to four-under alongside Grace, whose unprecedented effort lit up Birkdale earlier. He putted beautifully to reach the turn in 31 but he couldn't shake off 39-year-old Kuchar, who also took 31. Koepka is at 3-under-par after Round 2. The Englishman, whose last Open appearance came here at Birkdale 19 years ago, built on his opening 67 with two birdies in the first four holes but then dropped a stroke at the 6th. Spieth has won eight of his past nine PGA TOUR events when holding at least a share of the 54-hole lead.

Open champion in 2014 at Hoylake and a four-time major victor, McIlroy admitted it took some strong words from his caddy JP Fitzgerald to help him recover.

Does Jordan Spieth have the 2017 Open Championship wrapped up, or will he slip up and open the door to someone else on Sunday?

Arrow fans were queuing for miles in the hope to find out what Season 6 would have in store and desperate to see the trailer. Although the two had shared scenes before, "we had never really acted together, and I was really legitimately nervous".

Johnson looked like he might have a chance to match Grace's 62, which set a record for low score in a major championship. Quickly, the 10-footer Kuchar had for birdie on the home hole became more daunting, and when he lipped the putt out on the left, the knife had twisted. Teeing off just before Spieth, the Northern Irishman holed three birdies from his first give holes, including an exquisite 20 yard chip on the second to jump to four-under par. Kuchar started the day tied on top of the British Open leaderboard but the hurdle was too hard for him to handle. He had six birdies on Saturday, but also had four bogeys and is now 6 shots out of first at -5.

Spieth, the world No.3, overcame insane cross-winds, squalls and a 25-minute rain delay to seize the outright halfway lead on Friday.

Grace, 29, finished his round before second-round leader Spieth teed off.

But for a period of time on Saturday, it appeared that the once-left-for-dead Rory McIlroy had risen into contention - and we were rolling toward a big-time Sunday showdown between the game's two biggest names we as the public might not deserve. I'm playing some good golf.

The only player in the world top 18 not to have made the cut was Canadian Justin Thomas. "If you kept it in play, it was nearly hard to make a bogey". He said sometimes it helps not to know records. Or a 1-iron, he said, to clear the bunkers and have just one other to worry about.

And we have an opportunity to have a really special day on the golf course tomorrow.

The South African shot an 8-under-62 Saturday, the lowest score ever in a major championship.
