Emirates and flydubai to deepen ties with code share pact (BA)

Dubai's government-controlled Emirates Airline, the global carrier of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), said here on Monday it agreed with budget carrier flydubai to expand their codeshare agreement and align their frequent flyer programs. The airlines estimate that will grow to 240 destinations by 2022, when the combined fleet will have expanded to 380 aircraft.
Emirates and flydubai said in a statement on Monday: "The innovative partnership goes beyond codesharing and includes integrated network collaboration with coordinated scheduling".
Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Group and Chairman of flydubai, said "Both airlines have grown independently and successfully over the years, and this new partnership will unlock the enormous value that the complementary models of both companies can bring to consumers, each airline, and to Dubai".
In May, Emirates reported an 82 percent drop in net profit in the year to March 31 - the first time since its 2011-12 fiscal year that the airline's annual profit had fallen.

The two airlines also plan to develop a joint hub at Dubai International Airport, aligning their systems and operations to ensure a "seamless travel experience".
The agreement follows increasing moves to bring the two government-owned carriers closer together, and reduce unnecessary competition, enabling Emirates to benefit from Flydubai's single-aisle operations.
"This partnership isn't about savings, it's about extracting commercial value by leveraging the strengths of both companies to accelerate growth", representatives from the airlines said. The current combined network comprises 216 destination points. Flydubai operates 58 New-Generation Boeing 737 aircraft to 95 destinations.
The airlines said the partnership would be rolled out over the coming months, with more details to be confirmed soon. It adds that the two sides are discussing various additional network and customer initiatives including frequent-flyer alignment.
