  • Powerplay doesn't get bigger than this! Amazing images of India, US aircraft carriers and fighter jets together in deep sea

Naval manoeuvres in a rough monsoon sea, cross deck flying and crew exchange were some of the highlights of the trilateral "Malabar" naval exercise between India, the U.S. and Japan in the Bay of Bengal.

The naval exercise featured 95 aircraft, 16 ships and two submarines, officials said in a statement.

The US, Japanese and Indian navies on July 10 began the Malabar Naval Exercise 2017 aimed at achieving deeper military ties between the three nations. The helicopter from JN Sazanami undertook flying operations from INS Sahyadri and USS Shoup.

An Indian Navy Sea King helicopter undertook transfer of Japanese personnel to INS Vikramaditya as part of crew exchange programme during the exercise.

Though on record officers of the three countries insist the operations are all about interoperability and jointmanship to work together from humanitarian aid disaster relief to anti-piracy, scratch beneath the surface they admit the exercise is an attempt to send out a signal to an increasingly belligerent China. It was followed by flying operations undertaken by the helicopters of the US Navy ships.

OnSunday, Indian Navy ship Jyoti transferred oil with US "Shoup" and Japanese naval ship "Sazanami" under the replenishment at sea exercise.

The Malabar Naval Games is seeing participation from, among others, USS Nimitz, one of the largest warships in the world, and Indian aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya.

Today is the last day of India-US-Japan naval exercise in Bay of Bengal.

In addition to the combat operations, the fighter aircraft from both navies undertook composite formation flying, thereby demonstrating another step in the interoperability aimed through this exercise.
