Charlie Gard's parents say they want to take baby home to die

His mother Connie Yates has returned to the High Court to request permission to take the youngster out of the hospital.

The family attorney, Grant Armstrong, told a judge that Chris Gard and Connie Yates have held discussions with Great Ormond Street Hospital about sending Charlie home, but that the hospital was putting up obstacles towards that goal.

But the judge said that GOSH bosses had indicated that there were practical difficulties, and had suggested a "hospice option" instead.

Minutes later Katie Gollop, the lawyer representing the hospital, said the couple had rejected an offer of mediation.

"These are issues which cry out for settlement".

On Tuesday a spokesman for the hospital said experimental therapy "could have been an opportunity" to help Charlie but it was too late.

Amber alert issued for 5-year-old girl taken from day care
A man was seen taking the toddler - pictured in an adult's coat - before leading her away in a sedan and driving off, police said. The girl is described as being Indian in appearance, about 121cm tall and has brown hair and brown eyes.

"When the hospital was informed that the Professor had new laboratory findings causing him to believe NBT would be more beneficial to Charlie than he had previously opined, GOSH's hope for Charlie and his parents was that that optimism would be confirmed", said the GOSH statement. "It must be provided in a specialist setting by specialists", the document said. GOSH said nucleoside therapy is not meant to be a cure and would not improve Charlie's quality of life, but his parents were told it had worked for other children with different conditions.

Gard and Yates resisted, arguing that an experimental treatment available in the USA could extend and improve Charlie's life.

Charlie's parents subsequently failed to overturn his ruling in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court in London.

In a statement he read outside the court July 24, Chris Gard said, "This is one of the hardest things that we will ever have to say, and we are about to do the hardest thing that we'll ever have to do, which is to let our attractive little Charlie go".

Mr Justice Francis in April ruled in favour of Great Ormond Street and said Charlie should be allowed to die with dignity. Although President Donald Trump and Pope Francis were among those who urged that treatments continue, the European Court of Human Rights demanded a six-day continuation of treatment in June, but otherwise did not intervene. "Charlie's been left for his illness to deteriorate devastatingly to the point of no return".
