Alec Baldwin joins NBC's 'A Few Good Men'

Sorkin's play first premiered on Broadway in 1989 at the Music Box Theatre to critical acclaim. Aaron Sorkin, the man behind The Newsroom and The West Wing, wrote the play and film, and will also write NBC's live version.

This will be a reunion of sorts for Baldwin and Sorkin, who is executive producing alongside Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. Though a date for the NBC broadcast has yet to be announced, the production will air sometime in the second quarter of 2018.

In a statement, writer Aaron Sorkin said that Baldwin is "one of our greatest actors", and having him join this production is "a dream come true".

Baldwin is the first official casting news for NBC's production. A Few Good Men marks an ongoing relationship for the actor with NBC, building on his Emmy-nominated work on SNL and his award-winning role on 30 Rock.

Baldwin earned two Emmy nominations last week, one for his portrayal as President Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live. On Easter Sunday, it will offer a live production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

The Plot: Set in 1986 and taking place in Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, A Few Good Men centers on newbie military lawyer Lt. Daniel Kaffee, who comes up against the formidable Col. Jessep when he is asked to defend three Marines on trial for murder. Baldwin takes on the role indelibly created on-screen by Jack Nicholson and originated by Stephen Lang in the Broadway play. The telecast will be produced by Universal Television in association with Sony Pictures Television and Warner Bros.
