The arrival of Mevlut Cavusoglu was confirmed by Qatari state media, which said Turkey's top diplomat had praised the "wise and calm manner" with which Doha had approached the current crisis.

Al Attiyah said the agreement highlights Qatar's "longstanding commitment" in working together with the United States in advancing their military cooperation and fight against extremism.

Qatar hosts the biggest United States military base in the Middle East with 11,000 troops deployed to or assigned to al Udeid Air Base. "The $12 billion sale will give Qatar a state of the art capability and increase security cooperation and interoperability between the United States and Qatar", Pentagon spokesman Lt. Col. Roger Cabiness told CNN in a statement. The statement comes ahead of talks between the USA and Saudi Arabia's foreign minister Adel Al Jubeir in Washington, DC.

Qatar said on Wednesday it had withdrawn its peacekeeping troops from the disputed frontier between Djibouti and Eritrea, after the two East African countries sided with Saudi Arabia and its allies in their standoff with Qatar.

On June 5, Saudi Arabia blockaded Qatar, while Egypt, Bahrain and the UAE cut diplomatic ties with Qatar citing Doha's alleged support of terrorism.

Warmbier was convicted of subversion in North Korea after he tearfully confessed he tried to steal a propaganda banner. The discussions were meant to replace a strategic and economic dialogue held annually under the Obama administration.

The clarification came after remarks by Qatar Airways' CEO Akbar Al Baker that the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain were violating worldwide law by shutting out Qatari flights, it stated.

Trump hailed the $110bn deal for Saudi purchases of U.S. defence equipment and services, which was reached during meetings in Riyadh.

The Pentagon reassurance differed from US President Donald Trump's comments that applauded the decision, via Twitter.

In a speech at the White House last week, Mr Trump said: "The nation of Qatar, unfortunately, has historically been a funder of terrorism at a very high level". Qatar is moving in the right direction when it comes to curtailing its funding of terrorism, Mattis added.

The agreement came amid an ongoing diplomatic row between Qatar and other Arab states.
