WASHINGTON (CNN) - Senate intelligence committee Chairman Richard Burr said Tuesday that former FBI Director James Comey's testimony later this week will be his only public testimony on his firing and interactions with Trump.
A warm-up act of sorts comes Wednesday, when the same committee hears testimony from Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, National Security Agency (NSA) head Mike Rogers, interim Federal Bureau of Investigation director Andrew McCabe, and Deputy US Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.
The NSA document reportedly depicted a hacking operation tied to Moscow's GRU intelligence agency that targeted private U.S. companies providing voter registration services and equipment around the country.
His appearance will mark Comey's first public comments since he was abruptly fired by the president last month.
Comey is expected to testify about the investigation into Russian interference in the election and is expected to be asked about his past conversations with Trump, including allegations that the president asked for his loyalty and for the FBI director to ease off the investigation into Trump's first national security adviser, Michael Flynn.
The White House had hoped to set up a "war room" stocked with Trump allies and top-flight lawyers to combat questions about the FBI and congressional investigations into possible ties between the campaign and Russian Federation.
Student killed, 10 injured during CASO in Kashmir's Shopian
Some time later, the stone-pelting intensified and the security forces had to open fire to disperse them, the official said. One youth, identified as Adil Farooq Magrey, a Class 12 student, a resident of Ganavpora, was declared dead in the hospital.
Several Democrats have warned that attempts to obstruct justice would propel the crisis into territory similar to the Watergate scandal which sank Nixon.
"It would be unthinkable if the president actually did what was reported", Warner told CBS News Sunday. Comey's testimony then was "riveting", Schmaler said - a rare moment when lawmakers essentially stopped talking and just let a witness speak for 20 minutes straight.
The Senate Judiciary Committee has called for him to testify, too, and committee leaders Sens.
What Comey will reveal, if anything, is the topic of intense speculation.
The White House and its allies are scrambling for ways to offset potential damage from fired FBI Director James Comey's highly anticipated congressional testimony, an appearance that could expose new details about his discussions with President Donald Trump about the federal investigation into Russia's election meddling.
White House officials had considered trying to invoke the President's executive privilege authority to block the testimony, but they said on Monday that they would not do so. If so, why didn't Comey report it to someone?
White House spokesmen denied the nature of the meeting that was described in the memo, saying: "This is not a truthful or accurate portrayal of the conversation between the president and Mr. Comey".
