Theresa May will still be British prime minister but for how long

"The big picture is that political uncertainty could take weeks or months to be resolved and it is likely to weigh on both financial markets (in particular the pound) and the economy", said Paul Hollingsworth, economist at Capital Economics in London.

"As I reflect on the results I will reflect on what we need to do in the future to take the party forward", May said on Friday in a televised statement.

"My resolve is the same that as it has been".

British voters narrowly approved a referendum a year ago to exit the European Union, and Thursday's election raised the prospect that the loss of Conservative seats represented buyers remorse over the Brexit decision.

Britain's opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said on Sunday there could be another election this year or early in 2018 after the vote on Thursday produced no clear victor.

Now the famous British capacity for muddling through faces a real test as the most important negotiations facing the nation in a generation get fully under way.

The Prime Minister called what she thought would be a Brexit-focused election, but the issue was quickly overshadowed by security as two deadly terror attacks, in Manchester and London, struck during the campaign period.

May had called the election three years early in a bid to strengthen her hand in looming Brexit negotiations, but her gamble backfired spectacularly.

The All Whites' defensive shape was poor against the hosts, and they looked vulnerable to long balls and at set pieces. I think that the difference between these teams is more than obvious. "It was a fair result for how the teams played".

The projections indicate that the party remains shy of an overall majority, expected to win around 322 seats, down from the 2015 general election majority of 331 seats.

The Labour Party has said it was prepared to form a coalition government, with Mr Corbyn announcing: "We are ready to serve".

The campaign began with a clear lead for May and the Conservatives, reinforcing a perception that Labour's Jeremy Corbyn was too left-wing to attract widespread support. "I'm not sure that we should read, from the results of this vote, that Britons' sovereign decision on Brexit has been cast into doubt in any way".

Trump has been supportive of the U.K.'s referendum vote to leave the European Union, calling it as a "good thing" in an interview with the British newspaper The Times in January.

If the Labour leader had won seven marginal Conservative seats and formed a so-called "progressive alliance" with all other smaller parties - barring the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) - it would have been enough to command a working majority.

Sterling plunged against the dollar and the euro as the election result created even more uncertainty over the whole Brexit process. It projected 34 for the Scottish National Party and 14 for the Liberal Democrats.

In total, 30,450 people were interviewed as they exited from 144 polling stations across the UK. The Conservative party was hoping to gain some ground in Parliament but in fact lost some seats.

With all but one of the seats declared, the Conservatives, or "Tories", had taken 318 seats, which means voters have elected their second hung parliament in less than a decade. Clearly, the Brexit referendum has made people realise the importance of exercising their right to vote.
