Stanley Cup final has been a rollercoaster ride for Murray, Rinne

Sidney Crosby put on a show in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup final, but his brilliant night was overshadowed by some out-of-character behaviour.

After dropping the first two games of the series in Pittsburgh, the Predators tied the Stanley Cup Final at two games apiece with a pair of dominant victories in Nashville. I think we've got to play determined.

"We've already parked the game and we're focusing on game six in our building and we know the energy is going to be there".

One that can't get back to the creature comforts of Smashville fast enough. Pekka Rinne's game seemed to be in tatters and the Penguins fan base was musing whether it preferred a clean sweep or just a split of the two games in Nashville so the defending champions could raise the Cup on home ice.

Nashville coach Peter Laviolette gave no update on Ellis on Friday. But if the excuse for Pittsburgh's face of the franchise - one of the few faces of the league, if we're being honest - repeatedly shoving Subban's head into the ice is that Crosby gets beat up all the time and shouldn't be penalized for finally dishing out some retaliation, that's just sad.

All the good mojo Rinne generated while helping Nashville rally to tie the series at 2 vanished in a span of 20 minutes. Rinne has stopped just 34 of the 45 pucks that have come his way during seven forgettable periods at PPG Paints Arena.

Predators on brink as Rinne struggles in Pitt
Predators fans didn't have a Cup Final to host on Friday, so they sold out Bridgestone Arena to watch Game 5 on the jumbotron . If the Stanley Cup Final were played exclusively in Pittsburgh , it may have been one of the most lopsided series of all time.

The Penguins scored in the ensuing 4-on-4 to go up 3-0 and take momentum into Nashville for Game 6 on Sunday night.

Not Crosby, who said Subban "likes the attention" and "wants to make stuff up". Nor do they have an Evgeni Malkin or a Phil Kessel or even a Jake Guentzel. The last nine months have only emphasized Crosby's resilience. He attempted to extract himself but couldn't, then unleashed a torrent of punches at Subban's head.

Crosby looked to be agitated about a missed slashing call, and said he was only gesturing to express his displeasure.

And while captain Sidney Crosby says the "desperation level" will ramp up, Sullivan was quick to point out the term doesn't mean what you think it means. "I was in some kind of lock there".

But what the Predators do have is a roster full of players who are capable of collectively stepping up and taking a game over. The exchange ended with both players heading to the dressing room with minor penalties.

"That is, hands down, the best game that we've played in this series to this point", Sullivan said. Backup Juuse Saros didn't fare much better, giving up three goals in relief. Sheary took a pretty feed from Crosby and sent it by Saros 1:19 into the second to push Pittsburgh's lead to four.
