Senate Bill To Replace Obamacare Could Be In Jeopardy

26 Juin, 2017, 19:43 | Author: Cyril Hebras

Speaking to "Fox & Friends", Trump claimed that former President Barack Obama only called the draft bill "mean" because he did it first.

Face the Nation host John Dickerson and Meet the Press host Chuck Todd both noted that under the Senate bill, Republicans could use this maneuver to cut coverage for things like mental health care, substance abuse treatment, and maternity care. And several lawmakers acknowledge that getting majority support will be tough.

The Senate's No. 2 Republican said the Senate is on pace to hold a key procedural vote Wednesday. "You got folks with a health coverage card but no care because you can't afford deductibles", Price said. "I think they'll get some points".

As the debate intensifies over health care legislation, support is growing for the Affordable Care Act. In addition to slamming the bill's effects, which would shift costs to older and sicker Americans, Obama said, efforts to tweak the Senate bill would not "change the fundamental meanness at the core of this legislation".

But the forces arrayed against the Republican push to dismantle former president Obama's signature domestic achievement are formidable.

Senate Republican leaders are scrambling for enough votes to approve their health care legislation as soon as this week.

Sasse addressed health care at a private retreat for top donors to the libertarian Koch brothers' political network, which favors full repeal.

Trump bemoaned the lack of bipartisanship in Washington, having belittled prominent Democrats himself.

"We have a very good plan", Trump said in an interview aired Sunday.

Then he criticizes two prominent Democratic senators.

Trump said he thought Republicans in the US Senate were doing enough to push through the bill and criticised Democrats for their opposition. And the president called Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren "somebody that's just got a lot of hatred". Warren is a leading liberal and defender of the current health law.

On Twitter this weekend, Trump urged the dissenting Republican senators to get behind the bill.

That's not sitting well with GOP Sen.

"It's so easy. But we won't get one Democrat vote, not one".

Johnson says he's made his views clear to the party leadership and the White House.

The Democrat reiterated her opposition in a statement to The Associated Press on Sunday, saying the health care bill being pushed by Senate Republicans is a "monstrosity".

He told ABC's "This Week" the GOP has "at best, a 50-50 chance".

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of NY said Democrats have been clear they will cooperate with Republicans if they agree to drop a repeal of the Affordable Care Act and instead work to improve it.

Schumer described the GOP proposal as "devastating" to the middle class and "that's what's making it so hard for them to pass it".

"It's hard for me to see the bill passing this week", Collins said.

At least five Republican senators have publically opposed the bill.

While the Congressional Budget Office has yet to release an analysis of the Senate bill, similar Medicaid provisions outlined in the House bill were projected to result in more than $800 billion in federal funds being cut from Medicaid over the next 10 years.

Collins spoke on ABC's "This Week".

"It would be so great if the Democrats and Republicans could get together, wrap their arms around it and come up with something that everybody's happy with", the USA president said.
