Sekulow Can't Decide Whether Trump is Under Investigation

Appearing on several morning news shows Sunday, Sekulow attempted to convince viewers that the president was not speaking literally when he tweeted Friday: "I'm being investigated for firing the Federal Bureau of Investigation director by the man who told me to fire the Federal Bureau of Investigation director".
Donald Trump's new attorney, Jay Sekulow, burst into the public consciousness this weekend with a series of fiery - if contradictory - interviews on Sunday morning news shows.
In media blitz through four networks, Sekulow, a new member of Trump's legal team, repeatedly insisted that there was no such probe - an assertion at odds with stories published last week in The Washington Post and elsewhere - only to concede later that he could not know for sure. "Actually, what I'm trying to get is a straight answer out of you".
In the heated interview on Fox News Sunday, he first asserted that Trump was not being investigated.
"He's not afraid of the investigation", Sekulow said. "So he's being investigated for taking the action the attorney general and deputy attorney general recommended him to take by the agency that recommended the determination".
"There has been no notification from the special counsel's office that the president is under investigation", he said.

Qatar news agency hack ignites Arab rift
The additional pressure on Qatar came after Doha rejected Saudi demands delivered by a Kuwaiti envoy Wednesday. Tillerson has been tapped by Trump to help mediate the worst diplomatic crisis in the Gulf in years.
While critics appear to blame the situation on a tweet by the president last Friday - appearing to confirm he was the target of a probe - one of the president's lawyers, Jay Sekulow with the American Center for Law and Justice, believes the mainstream media is culpable.
"I do not appreciate you putting words in my mouth", Sekulow complained.
I didn't say investigation, YOU said investigation...the Washington Post said investigation...
"So the president is purportedly being investigated for doing what the Department of Justice, who's doing the investigation, asked him to do". We have not received nor are we aware of any investigation of the president of the United States. "That is protected under the constitution".
"You're right, Chris, I can't read the mind of the special prosecutor, but I have not been notified, no one has been notified that he is", Sekulow said.
Now, to be fair, Jay Sekulow has an impossible job.
Wallace noted that the "tape will speak for itself".
Using language popular on the political far-right, he has warned repeatedly of a "deep state bureaucracy" out to sabotage the presidency and a "shadow government" led by none other than former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, who was sacked by Trump last month. Sekulow family members did not respond to the newspaper's questions; an ACLJ spokesman said Sekulow was "one of the most successful lawyers in the country whose income is very small and owns a very small home".
