Le parti conservateur de la Première ministre Theresa May est certes arrivé en tête, et cette dernière a indiqué qu'elle allait former un nouveau gouvernement.

Placée sous forte pression après son revers aux législatives, la Première ministre britannique Theresa May a dû lâcher du lest samedi avec le départ de ses deux chefs de cabinet, à dix jours du début prévu des négociations du Brexit. Un tel soutien lui donne une très courte majorité absolue. Malgré les seize points d'avance des conservateurs dans les sondages, son camp recueillerait finalement 261 sièges, soit 29 de plus que dans l'assemblée sortante. Son leader Paul Nuttal a annoncé sa démission à la suite de cette défaite.

Malgré les appels à la démission du leader travailliste Jeremy Corbyn, Theresa May a confirmé son intention de former un gouvernement, et de mener les négociations du Brexit au nom des Britanniques.
