Selon la représentante du Fonds des Nations unies pour l'enfance (Unicef) Meritxell Relano, le nombre de malades du choléra dans le pays pourrait atteindre plusieurs centaines de milliers de personnes. Le choléra a réapparu au Yémen en avril, après une première épidémie l'an dernier. "Il est probable que d'ici fin août, le nombre des malades atteindra 300.000 personnes", indique l'Unicef.

"Le nombre de cas continue d'augmenter".

Elle a rappelé que l'épidémie avait déjà fait 1.265 morts, dont un quart étaient des enfants, et que la moitié des cas suspects enregistrés jusqu'à aujourd'hui (192.983) sont des enfants. "Cette urgence humanitaire n'est pas étrangère à la situation chaotique sur le terrain", a déploré l'Unicef.
