How a Referendum on Trump Became Most Expensive House Race Ever

At least that's true for Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal and his 2010 primary rival Karen Handel.

Handel has featured rallies and fundraisers hosted by Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan, and Price himself. He also said "their ObamaCare is dead".

Both Jon Ossoff, the Democrat, and Karen Handel, the Republican, are party people.

Robert Cahaly, a senior strategist at The Trafalgar Group, an Atlanta-based firm, told Politico that President Donald Trump's handling of the congressional baseball shooting may bring in enough votes for Handel.

Ossoff's campaign has been a testing ground for Democrats' hopes that Trump's unpopularity will allow them to compete for GOP-held seats in suburban areas across America.

"No one knows who he is", Handel, a three-time candidate for statewide office, told USA TODAY. I'd say the preponderance of evidence suggests that Ossoff has a very, very slight lead.

Georgia 6th Congressional District hopeful Jon Ossoff is getting help from a fellow Democrat who also tried to pull an upset in Republican territory. But in November 2018, Democrats are expected to have many better pick-up opportunities. The former Army intelligence officer assembled an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle while blindfolded to mock Republican attacks that he was weak on the Second Amendment. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has contributed about $5 million to Ossoff's campaign. Democrats are hoping that a win for Ossoff in the traditionally Republican 6th Congressional District could signal troubles for the GOP in 2018 races.

According to Facebook posts, a crisis team will be available to the community at the high school auditorium beginning at 9 a.m. The search for the two men began when a missing persons report was issued by Clinton County Sheriff's Department Monday night.

"Folks here in Georgia want fresh leadership that's committed to delivering a higher quality of life here at home, growing our local economy, focusing on accountability in Washington with this atmosphere of gridlock, chaos and scandal in D.C.", said Ossoff, responding to a question about the message tomorrow's vote would send to the nation and the world. Ossoff calls the shooting a "national tragedy" that should not be politicized.

After shaking Handel's hand at a wood-paneled barbecue restaurant on Monday, Johns, 71, said he's amazed at the level of attention on the race.

That hasn't stopped the president from weighing in on the race. Handel and several neighbors received threatening letters with a white substance the Federal Bureau of Investigation later said was likely not hazardous.

But if Handel loses, it will be a clear warning sign to House Republicans facing tough races in other suburban districts across the country, many of them among the 23 GOP-held seats where Trump trailed Clinton in 2016.

The race between Republican Karen Handel and Democrat Jon Ossoff is seen as a significant political test for the new Trump Administration.

As the most expensive House race in in US history goes into voters' hands, President Donald Trump has taken to Twitter to weigh in on the closely-watched election. Both sides have placed major emphasis on turning out voters who participated in Georgia's presidential primaries past year but did not vote in April - and there are more Republicans than Democrats in that pool of potential voters.
