He also shared the president's message, "At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is "no reason to be alarmed!"

Trump initially had criticized Khan for a post-attack quote in which the first Muslim mayor of a major Western capital said there was "no reason to be alarmed" amid increased police presence.

The assault was claimed by the so-called Islamic State group."America is safer when we rally our friends and allies against the bad guys rather than pick fights with the good guys", the newspaper quoted Damon Wilson, President George W. Bush's top Europe adviser, as saying. It has also emerged that two people said they had warned the police about the behaviour of one of the attackers.

With the seven victims of Saturday's attack not yet buried, Trump repeatedly criticized London Mayor Sadiq Khan, whom he accused of playing down the terror threat.

"When you have a special relationship it is no different from when you have got a close mate".

The cross-Atlantic criticism is nothing new: Khan, a Muslim, has previously been critical of Trump over his proposed temporary travel ban on six mostly Muslim countries, the BBC reported.

Trump had faced a barrage of criticism on Sunday over an earlier Tweet attacking Khan.

During a visit to Chicago in September past year, Khan endorsed Trump's opponent Hillary Clinton.

Trump said he had spoken with British Prime Minister Theresa May to express America's "unwavering support" and offer US assistance as the British government works to protect its citizens and bring the guilty to justice.

Politicians in the United Kingdom have called on Mrs May to withdraw the invitation for Mr Trump's state visit later this year.

"You have to be kidding me?!: Terror attacks are part of living in big city, says London Mayor Sadiq Khan", he tweeted.

President Trump this morning also blasted out a series of tweets reinforcing his calls for the "travel ban" in the wake of the London attack.

"If you're going to see something and say something, it has to be followed by, do something", she said.

"People, the lawyers and the courts can call it whatever they want, but I am calling it what we need and what it is, a TRAVEL BAN!" he tweeted.

In another tweet, he added, "In any event we are EXTREME VETTING people coming into the U.S.in order to help keep our country safe. The courts are slow and political!" he said, attacking the judiciary in a way that is rare in American politics. The Justice Department has been battling in court to have the bans reinstated, and Trump has repeatedly spoken out against the judges opposing him.

Mr Trump has argued the measure was needed to prevent attacks in the USA, but critics say the policy is discriminatory and has little national security justification.

The Trump administration Thursday appealed to the Supreme Court to review and reinstate the travel ban, hoping the court will overturn lower-court rulings that have stalled the executive order from being implemented.

Once it receives the response, the high court could quickly rule on whether to take up the case.

"Try to imagine the United Kingdom prime minister attacking the Mayor of NYC the day after 9/11", said European Parliament cabinet member Simon O'Connor.
