Senate Republican leaders are under fire from all sides for blocking debate on their health care bill - the details of which remain largely unknown - before forcing a vote on the legislation by July 4.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said Democrats will not allow upper chamber Republicans to craft their version of the House-approved Obamacare repeal and replacement bill behind closed doors.
"Republicans are drafting this bill in secret because they're ashamed of it, plain and simple", minority leader Chuck Schumer, D, NY, said Monday.
Schumer and Democrats called for the GOP's House-passed American Health Care Act (AHCA) bill to go through a hearing process, where members from both parties could debate the bill publicly before it is brought to a vote.
Democrats have long opposed repealing the Affordable Care Act and have instead tried to convince Republicans to work toward fixing problems associated with the law.
The Democrats plan to put up a united front to try to block all "routine requests to let the chamber operate", down to committee hearing scheduling and vote scheduling procedures. She noted that Trump's Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price said at a hearing last week that he had not seen the text of the bill. The CBO estimated that the original bill would have stripped 24 million people of their health coverage. It has, on the other hand, produced the ancillary benefit for Republicans of making it hard for their Democratic colleagues to plan their own activities. My constituents are Americans just like the constituents in Republican states are Americans. They deserve to know what's about to happen to them.
"This radical departure from normal procedure on a bill of such effect leaves the Senate minority little choice but to depart from normal procedure as well", Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said on the Senate floor. "We understand this issue pretty well and we're now working on coming up with a solution".
"The combination of secrecy and speed are a toxic recipe", said Sen.
McConnell, dead husk of a human being, said that Obamacare is "crumbling" and "imposed on our country", speaking in broad terms about how Republicans will vaguely end unspecified suffering. "You're free to ask anybody anything".
The congressman said getting input from the public and businesses could help craft a better health care bill.
Sensing that the unpopular GOP bill could give them an advantage in 2018, Democrats will contrast how their approach to passing Obamacare differed from how Republicans are treating their legislation.
