Cholera death toll rises to over 1000 in war-torn Yemen

The death toll from cholera in war-torn Yemen has increased to 1,146 since April 27, with the total suspected cases reaching 166,976, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Tuesday on its official twitter account.
The organisation warned that the healthcare system in Yemen is on the verge of collapse as many hospitals have shut down because of the ongoing conflict. In the last week alone, at least 187 deaths were reported from cholera, in addition to nearly 38,000 suspected cases.
"Since 27 April 2017, a total of 166,976 suspected #cholera cases and 1146 deaths have been reported across #Yemen", the World Health Organization wrote on its official Twitter account.
The UN estimates that some 7.6 million people live in Yemen's cholera-threatened areas.
