British Airways commissions independent study of IT outage

International Consolidated Airlines Group SA's Chief Executive said human error caused the British Airways IT systems crash that left tens of thousands of passengers stranded, the BBC reported.
Speaking at an airline conference in Mexico, the former Aer Lingus boss, said an engineer had disconnected a power supply causing a power surge when it was reconnected, that caused IT systems to fail.
He said that would not have been a problem in itself, but the damage was caused when the power was restored in an uncontrolled fashion.
Mr Walsh, who was attending the summit of the aviation trade body, the International Air Transport Association in Cancun, voiced confidence that there would be no long-lasting harm.
However, some experts say that blaming a power surge is too simplistic.
