Although pressure has been building for those two years, it took until Tuesday morning for crews to arrive at Lake Eola Park in Orlando, Florida to rip the "Johnny Reb" statue from the grounds and cart it off to a cemetery.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer chose to relocate the statue after a blogger said the memorial was a symbol of racism. Dyer has estimated the cost for moving the statue at $120,000.

The statue will be re-erected in the city's historic Greenwood Cemetery in a section where Confederate veterans are buried. Greenwood Cemetery hosts four different separate military sections: Confederate, Union, Spanish-American War and American Legion (Korea, Vietnam, World War I and World War II).

In addition to the relocation, the city said it is engaging historians to develop and install an educational panel near the monument that would help to put the monument in proper historical context and serve as an educational tool for the Orlando community and future generations about this painful period in the country's history.

The city will build a base and reassemble the memorial in a process that is expected to last about six weeks.
