A man has contracted the first human case of the West Nile virus of 2017 in Southern Nevada, public health authorities reported Thursday.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reminds residents that the best way to prevent West Nile virus and other mosquito-borne illnesses to is prevent mosquito bites.
"Everyone older than six months of age should use repellent outdoors", said Dr. Eden Wells, chief medical executive of MDHHS.
People are being warned to take steps to prevent mosquito bites, which can transmit the virus. More serious complications include neurological illnesses, such as meningitis and encephalitis.
