Trump Wraps Mid East Trip, Rome Is Up Next

An Egyptian report Monday said that U.S. President Donald Trump will invite PM Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas to a peace summit, to be held either in Egypt or Washington.

As Trump became the first sitting president to visit the hallowed Western Wall on Monday, it remained unclear whether his administration was changing longstanding U.S. policy by declaring the wall's location to be Israel, rather than Jerusalem.

His talks in Bethlehem with the Palestinian president come after Trump on Monday made a heavily symbolic visit to the Western Wall in Jerusalem and met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Walking down the red carpet upon landing at Ben-Gurion International Airport, the president was greeted by dignitaries exhibiting the blunt forwardness and informality for which Israelis are known.

President Donald Trump, in Israel for the second leg of his first trip overseas as president, seemed to confirm that the classified intelligence he reportedly shared with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov indeed came from Israel.

Meetings between Trump and Netanyahu concluded on Monday with Trump promising to help broker an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal, but gave little indication of how he could revive negotiations that collapsed in 2014. He arrived in Israel after visiting Saudi Arabia, home to the two holiest sites in Islam, and will next head to the Vatican, home of the Catholic Church.

US President Donald Trump extended his condolences on Tuesday (May 23) to the victims of the Manchester suicide bombing that killed 22 people and said those behind the attack were "evil losers".

Much of central and southern Jerusalem was shut down to allow the presidential motorcade of around 60 vehicles to make its way from Trump's hotel to the town, just eight km (five miles) to the south.

The United States welcomed the move but the Palestinians said they had heard such promises before.

The nuclear deal that former President Barack Obama finalized with Iran in 2015 strained relations with Israel, whose leaders vehemently opposed the agreement.

Al Jazeera's Hoda Abdel-Hamid, reporting from Bethlehem, said Trump's remarks regarding the link between the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and stability in the rest of the region was significant, adding, however, that many Palestinians will be disappointed by what Trump did not say.

The only part of this "new partnership" that seems credible is that many of those jobs the president has promised us will be in manufacturing the $100 billion worth of weapons (the age-old answer to our problems) he plans to sell the Saudis. Attacking the United States is not considered good politics in Israel, and politicians who heaped praised on Trump in the wake of his election in November may be hesitant to turn against him. The Prime Minister's Office later said the measures came at Trump's request.

"I hope", Trump said after the meeting, without elaborating. While in Saudi Arabia, Trump accused Iran of fuelling "the fires of sectarian conflict and terror" while calling for its worldwide isolation.

Trump is on his first visit to Israel as president.

"Words fail to capture the experience", he said ahead of dinner at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence.

Trump ad libbed less in his joint press conference with Netanyahu.

"Today you visited the Western Wall and touched the hearts of the Israeli people". "I've seen such a different feeling toward Israel from countries that, as you know, were not feeling so well about Israel not so long ago".
