Trump called ex-FBI director a 'nut job' in comments to Russians

The New York Times reported Friday that Trump told the Russians that recently fired FBI Director James Comey was a "nut job" whose ouster relieved "great pressure" on him.

A date of this open hearing would be scheduled after the Memorial Day, the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence said yesterday.

"Director Comey served his country with honor for many years, and he deserves an opportunity to tell his story".

"The President has always emphasized the importance of making deals with Russian Federation as it relates to Syria, Ukraine, defeating ISIS and other key issues for the benefit and safety of the American people". But GOP lawmakers have grown increasingly anxious since Trump fired Comey, who had been leading the bureau's probe - and after Comey associates said he had notes from a meeting in which Trump asked him to shut down the investigation into the Russian Federation ties of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

On the other hand, Fox News anchor and former defense attorney Gregg Jarrett points to another possible conflict of interest Mueller may have: his past working relationship with former Federal Bureau of Investigation director Jim Comey - the man President Trump fired just two weeks ago.

Cummings said the committee's GOP chairman, Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz, "should ... have his subpoena pen ready" to obtain any White House documents related to Trump's meeting with the Russian foreign minister and ambassador. “I faced great pressure because of Russian Federation. -Va., the committee Vice Chairman.

On a day the administration hoped that Trump could leave scandalous allegations at home as he began his first trip overseas as president, the development was unwelcome at the White House.

Separately, a Washington Post report, citing anonymous sources familiar with the matter, said a senior Trump adviser was now considered a "person of interest" in the law enforcement investigation into whether Mr Trump's campaign associates coordinated with Russian Federation in an effort to sway the 2016 election.

He was scoreless, missing all six shots in the first half, but he did assist on six of his team's 11 baskets in the half. Cleveland's offense, and LeBron James in particular, torched Boston , but the Cavs' defensive blitz kindled the inferno.

The White House has disputed Comey's account of his February conversation with Trump concerning Flynn but has not offered specifics.

“By grandstanding and politicizing the investigation into Russias actions, James Comey created unnecessary pressure on our ability to engage and negotiate with Russia, ” Spicer said.

"A thorough investigation will confirm what we already know - there was no collusion between my campaign and any foreign entity", he declared.

The president's move came days after Comey testified in Capitol Hill about the FBI's investigation into Russia's meddling into the U.S. elections and a possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

Among Trump's senior White House advisers are several former campaign officials, including his son-in-law Jared Kushner, Steve Bannon, Stephen Miller and Kellyanne Conway.

At first, the administration said Trump fired Comey based on the recommendation of the Justice Department, and because of Comey's handling of the FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton a year ago.

The Washington Post report underscored the seriousness of the investigation into possible collusion, which was taken over earlier this week by former FBI Director Robert Mueller, who was appointed as a special prosecutor. Comey confirmed the existence of the investigation in March, telling Congress that his agents were investigating Russian efforts to influence the outcome of the election and whether anyone in the Trump campaign had been involved.

The announcement, the latest in the shock-a-day Washington saga, was made by deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.
