Saudi Foreign Minister: Trump Trip Was 'Phenomenal'

23 Мая, 2017, 13:52 | Author: Marc Bacque

At the end of his appearance with Netanyahu, Trump said that he "never mentioned the word or the name Israel" in his conversation with Russia's foreign minister and ambassador. But obstacles have emerged that may complicate the relationship between the White House and the Knesset.

Trump left for Jerusalem after the welcome ceremony for his meeting with Israeli president Reuven Rivlin at the President's House.

Rouhani also said last week's election showed Iranians wanted more democracy and interaction with the world, adding this would lead to much-needed economic progress.

"From Lebanon to Iraq to Yemen, Iran funds, arms and trains terrorists, militias and other extremist groups that spread destruction and chaos across the region", Trump said in Riyadh on Sunday. He'll also visit Italy and Brussels on his trip.

Mr Tillerson referred to the visit as "a moment in time" and suggested that the United States would take a more active role in the future in brokering a deal if both sides make serious commitments. From there the President traveled to Israel, where he met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and became the first sitting U.S. President to visit Jerusalem's holy Western Wall.

Mr Trump, whose unorthodox approach has spurred some hope on both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, has done no such managing of expectations.

After hosting Mr Abbas at the White House in March, Mr Trump boldly stated that achieving peace is "something that I think is, frankly, maybe not as hard as people have thought over the years". "American officials should know that whenever we need to technically test a missile, we will do so and will not wait for their permission", Rouhani said.

Tillerson was asked aboard Air Force One if the president still believes Islam "hates us," as he declared repeatedly during the campaign.

"Nothing helps you learn and understand people better than coming to their homes, where they live and seeing them face to face, seeing their families, and seeing their communities, finding out we all share the same wants and desires for ourselves and our people, and our families - peace, prosperity, we want our children to grow up without fear", he said. "He didn't succeed, he brought us together through common concern about his policies, particularly the Iranian nuclear deal", Oren said.

Mr Trump made one symbolic gesture in bridging the gap between Israel and the Arab world.

Saudi Arabia, like many Muslim-majority nations, doesn't have formal diplomatic relations with Israel because of its ongoing hostilities with Palestinians. The press flight from Riyadh had to make a pit stop in Cyprus.

Speaking of Tel Aviv to Riyadh, at least one US president has made that trip.

The next day, he will meet Mr Abbas in the West Bank and deliver a speech at the Israeli Museum.

Government and journalistic circles underlined that at the last of three summits in Riyadh (the first bilateral summit with King Salman bin Abdulaziz and the second one with six leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council, GCC), the US president favored a better common future.

Trump boldly stated that achieving peace is "something that I think is, frankly, maybe not as hard as people have thought over the years" in March during a meeting with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
