Korea calls S. Korea's border firing reckless provocation

After a missile launch on Sunday, North Korea said the test met all technical requirements that could allow mass-production of the munition known as Pukguksong-2.

Wang's statement further said Beijing had seen a "new change" on the part of South Korea with its willingness to "actively seek appropriate channels for dealing with the THAAD missile systems issue".

Two suspected North Korean drones were found in South Korea in 2014, one on the island of Baengnyeong and another in the city of Paju, close to the border.

In early 2017, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un warned the country was in the advanced stages of developing an intercontinental missile that would be able to reach the US.

North Korea yesterday "flatly rejected" a United Nations statement vowing to punish its latest banned missile test with tighter sanctions.

The North followed up with a weekend test-launch and declared Monday that it is ready to start mass-producing the new medium-range ballistic missile which it said is capable of reaching Japan and major USA military bases there.

It's moving ahead with its nuclear weapons program as well.

North Korean drone flights across the border are unusual, but have happened before. Satellite imagery suggests it could be ready to conduct its next test - which would be its sixth - at virtually any time.

US President Donald Trump has said "a major, major conflict" with North Korea is possible and that all options are on the table, but that he wants to resolve the crisis diplomatically.

South Korean and U.S. Forces Korea brass take part in a video conference with U.S. and Japanese officials in Seoul on Tuesday. "This is the DPRK's answer to the Trump administration'".

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) confirmed it test-fired another medium-range ballistic missile.

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called the ongoing testing "disappointing" and "disturbing".

The meeting was requested by the United States, Japan and South Korea, Uruguay's mission to the United Nations said.

The Security Council adopted two sanctions resolutions a year ago to ramp up pressure on Pyongyang and deny leader Kim the hard currency needed to fund his military programs. The test provided more "meaningful data" regarding North Korea's missile program, according to South Korea's military.

More recently the United States has said it is willing to enter into talks with North Korea if it halts its nuclear and missile tests.

He noted the Pukguksong-2's solid fuel is of particular concern.

Solid fuel missiles can be fired far more rapidly, dramatically shortening the time available for any attempt to intervene and prevent a launch.
