Bob Jungels triumphed from a select group of riders on the 15th stage of the Giro D'Italia, with the Luxembourg rider sprinting to victory in Bergamo.
Jungels, who wore the pink jersey earlier in the 100th edition of the race, finished the 199-kilometre ride from Valdengo to Bergamo just ahead of Colombia's race favourite Nairo Quintana after finding himself in the rare position of a bunch sprint.
Pink jersey wearer Tom Dumoulin had six seconds shaved off his overall lead in the final leg before the high mountains.
"It's never easy to plan an attack like mine today in a stage like this", Jungels said.
The final test on Stage 16 is the 2,502m Umbrailpass at 202.5km (1,116m of climbing in 13.45km, average 8.4%, maximum 12%), which takes the riders most of the way back up the Stelvio before descending most of the climb they took on earlier in the day on the way back into Bormio.
Dumoulin has been in the race lead since crushing the field to win the 10th stage time trial last Tuesday in Montefalcone, a win that pushed Quintana into second overall at almost three minutes behind.

It was also a constant criticism from fans that the cards be accessible in-game, rather than through a separate website or app. Were you a fan of the Grimoire cards or will you be glad to see the back of them? Presumably this will now be left behind.
Quintana fell while negotiating a corner on a downhill stretch and had to change bikes. Thibaut Pinot moved into third, 3:25 off the pace.
But with a lead of over two and a half minutes on Colombian climbing specialist Nairo Quintana, and almost four minutes on Italy's two-time champion Vincenzo Nibali, triumph on the coveted 100th edition of the Italian race is now Dumoulin's to lose. "Ilnur Zakarin (Russia / Katusha) +4:24"; 6. In the last kilometer, they pulled back a combined attack of Bauke Mollema (Trek-Segafredo) and Domenico Pozzovivo (AG2R), before Jungels took the front of the group, leading it as it approached the finish line.
Tanel Kangert of Astana and Kenny Elissonde of Sky were involved in more serious crashes. I didn't want to take time on Quintana when he crashed because it wasn't the right way to do it. "In that moment it was not really a moment to go full gas".
"I knew I had good legs today as I felt good in the climbs".
Nibali, one of the peloton's best descenders, attacked shortly before the summit of the final climb, with Jungels also powering away and overtaking the leaders. It will be the toughest stage any of these riders face all year and is widely regarded as one of the hardest in any of the Grand Tours in a long time.
