  • Baltimore cops involved in Freddie Gray death face internal police charges

The Baltimore Sun reported Monday that five of the police officers who were involved in the death of Freddie Gray will face disciplinary action.

Officers Garrett Miller and Edward Nero, who were involved in Gray's arrest, face suspension without pay for a few days. Officer William Porter is now not facing any disciplinary action in the case.

The charges come after investigators from the Montgomery and Howard county police departments finished their review of the case his month.

Porter, whose case ended in a mistrial, does not face any reported internal discipline, which stems from an investigation carried out by neighboring police departments rather than Baltimore itself.

Prosecutors charged the six officers in the case with charges varying from misconduct to manslaughter to second-degree murder, and all officers pleaded not guilty.

Trump Receives Warm Welcome in Israel — AP Report
On Sunday, around 60 prisoners now on hunger strike were evacuated to hospital after their medical conditions deteriorated. Under former President Barack Obama, the USA and Israel struck the largest aid pledge in American history to date.

Police Commissioner Kevin Davis imposes the discipline and will ultimately have the final say, the Sun reports. A recent change in state law requires that their hearings be open, so the public will be able to evaluate the evidence against them and the strength of their defenses, but that doesn't guarantee that the proceedings will be viewed as legitimate.

Baltimore police walk near a mural depicting Freddie Gray. This case has always been about providing justice for an innocent 25-year-old man who was unreasonably taken into police custody, severely injured while in police custody, and died due to a lack of care.

Brian Rice, and Sgt. Alicia White could be fired for their actions during the death of Freddie Gray, according to a report. The officers have reportedly been charged with "violations of policy and procedure", and while a report detailing the results of the investigation was given to the BPD on May 12, details have not yet been released.

Gene Ryan, the police union president, did not return calls seeking comment. None of them were convicted of criminal charges.

An internal inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Gray's 2015 in-custody death found five of the six officers involved violated internal protocol, according to NBC WBAL-TV in Baltimore.

Many in Baltimore were disappointed that no one was held criminally responsible in Gray's death, but despite fears of renewed unrest after each verdict, the city remained largely calm because residents were able to see for themselves that the jury in the first trial and Judge Barry Williams in the subsequent ones followed the evidence where it led and drew conclusions accordingly.
