David Ayer In Early Talks To Direct 'Scarface' Reboot

The 1983 version of Scarface nabbed $65.9 million at the worldwide box office which was a modest haul while the film was on its way to becoming an iconic title filled with dialogue which would not soon be forgotten. Suddenly someone remembered David Ayer exists, probably hungry to show off his machismo insanity after years of dealing with DC cartoon characters and Orc Cops. He's built a career on exploring them in movies like Training Day, The Fast and the Furious, and Dark Blue (all of which he wrote or co-wrote), along with Harsh Times and End of Watch (both of which he wrote and directed). Earlier drafts were written by Paul Attanasio and David Ayer. So Ayer will be directing a rewrite of a script he originally penned, one that was obviously determined to be unsatisfactory, nearly as though he's recently been recognized for having filmed a script that wasn't good enough.
Scarface already has a release date scheduled: it hits theaters on August 10, 2018. But he has since dropped out, citing scheduling issues.

The film will be set in Los Angeles instead of Miami and Diego Luna is attached to star in the flick. The movie will be set in Los Angeles and will incorporate many modern elements into the mix.
But that left Scarface and its star Diego Luna all alone with no director. So you can expect some oddball humor to seep in. Plus, it presumably keeps him away from Gotham City Sirens, a film I'd much rather see someone else - anyone else - step in to direct. Marc Shmuger, Scott Stuber, Dylan Clark will produce the film with Marty Bregman, producer of the 1983 Scarface from director Brian De Palma returning to produce as well.
