Guentzel, Rust lead Penguins' comeback in Columbus

The Penguins tied the game moments later, much to the disdain of Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella.

Johnson scored first for the Blue Jackets at 11:46 of the opening period when he launched a wrister from the right point into traffic that bounced off Sidney Crosby's skate and into the net.

Series all but in the bag.

"We know we're in a hole", Tortorella said.

Well, that was child's play compared to what the 22-year-old Guentzel did Sunday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Columbus Blue Jackets defenceman Zach Werenski on a better day, during the regular National Hockey League season. Instead of focusing on grinding the Penguins down, maybe they should start to focus on putting the puck in the net. Crosby held the attention of the entire team, leaving Guentzel all alone up in front of Bobrovsky. Bryan Rust answered with two goals in the second and Jake Guentzel gave the Penguins a 4-3 lead mid-way through the third. He probably would welcome a first-round matchup next year against anyone other than the Penguins and Crosby, the best player of his generation. I do not want them leaving tonight not enjoying a playoff win. Ten minutes later, Phil Kessel passed the puck out to Hainsey to the far right and he beat a shielded Bobrovsky from a severe angle.

The main star of the night was Jake Guentzel, who picked up a hat trick which was completed by his game winning goal in overtime.

The Jackets didn't get the shot attempts they had in the previous two games, but they were able to score, putting up three goals in the first period. "We've got to stay in the moment".

At least Savard had a pretty good view of the game-winner. The Penguins are hungry to repeat, and the Blue Jackets are having trouble keeping them from scoring down the stretch.

Should the Penguins have any hopes of clinching the series then, a better all-around game from the drop of the puck would be a wise thing to focus on.

The biggest save might have been a shot by Brandon Dubinsky that Fleury took off his mask seven minutes into the overtime.

Fleury, who alertly began moving to his left after making the pad save and giving up the rebound, arrived in time for the puck to ricochet off his helmeted forehead. It went up Werenski's stick and hit him in the face.

Brady Skjei spoiled Price's shutout bid with 2:56 remaining for his first career playoff goal.

Maybe it was well-deserved after a couple bad breaks went against the Penguins.

With a Game 3 overtime loss fresh in their minds and a sweep to their Metropolitan Division rivals a real possibility, the Blue Jackets have a lot of soul searching to do. We've got to be ready to play and we've got to win a hockey game.
