  • Eventually we'll use glasses for AR. That'll let us play a game of chess with a distant friend using a seemingly real chessboard

The new AR platform started by Facebook lets developers create 3D objects which then interact with live video feeds, superimposing the created objects upon the real world. The Camera Effects platform is created to be compatible with future augmented reality hardware, such as eyeglasses but in the meantime the effects will be available inside Facebook's Camera feature on smartphones.

The first step was rolling out cameras across all of its apps, and the next step, the platform, launches in closed beta today, Zuckerberg said. Facebook will provide developers with the software to produce such filters in the AR studio. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO and founder of Facebook, took to the stage to stress the importance of bringing people together. You can check out the Frame Studio tool right now on Facebook.

This week, Snap rolled out an AR feature that lets users add special effects to their photos, in addition to the already popular face mask effects, according to The Wall Street Journal.

As if keen to ensure its users never go outdoors, Facebook also on Tuesday announced Spaces VR, a new app for the Oculus Rift and Oculus Touch that will allow friends to socialise virtually.

Analyst Jan Dawson, of Jackdaw Research, said Facebook's new tools and features were impressive but added that "most of them won't be in users' hands anytime soon".

But, according to Nevin, there are some silver linings to Tottenham's challenge - as long as the Blues come out on top at the end. The battle for Champions League qualification via the top four seems certain to go down to the wire.

"We have a lot more to do here and we're reminded by this in the tragedy in Cleveland", Zuckerberg said.

A better way to find bots: Facebook Messenger has thousands of bots on its platform, but they are hard to find. The company is touting Developer Circles as a community-driven program, and will offer a platform for users to share ideas, collaborate, build and learn about new technologies from Facebook and others in the industry. Facebook is making the tools available freely, but will initially distribute only the work of 6 partners. Facebook added special effects cameras to its core apps like Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger.

The message was clear: Facebook sees augmented reality as the future of computing technology.

"Local developers will lead each circle by organising offline events and managing a Facebook Group for that specific region", the report said.

"For those of you who have watched us roll out cameras across all our apps and have asked what we're doing, that was act one".
